A new Big W store in Parkes in western New South Wales is the latest development to benefit from BlueScope Lysaght's innovative approach to the construction industry. A new fixing clip for its popular LYSAGHT KLIP-LOK 700 HI-STRENGTH® profile and an innovative trailer has added real value for the project's plumbing contractor, R Wishart Plumbing Service.
"We had some sheets up to 29.6 metres in length. They are certainly the longest roofing panels we have ever installed in our 30 year history. BlueScope Lysaght's experience, product range and 40 metre trailer definitely helped overcome any challenges," explained R Wishart Plumbing Service's Foreman, James Wishart.
"The new clip makes a huge difference when fixing the LYSAGHT KLIP-LOK 700 HI-STRENGTH® profile. It does not mark the sheet and, if needed, allows the sheet to be removed and refitted without any damage to the sheet. We also found it a bit simpler and quicker to lay, which was helpful on the Big W job with its 29 metre long sheets."
LYSAGHT KLIP-LOK 700 HI-STRENGTH® was released just over two years ago, and has been used on many high profile projects, including the new Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane. This high performance profile enables long spans, and extremely long runs. The wider sheets also make installation quicker, especially on bigger jobs.
BlueScope Lysaght has produced the ground breaking new clip for LYSAGHT KLIP-LOK 700 HI-STRENGTH® in order to eliminate issues roofers have had with previous clip fixing systems. Firstly, the new clip is more flexible, making it much easier to clip sheets onto. Secondly, the new design eliminates marking that previously occurred on the ribbing. Thirdly, the sheets can be removed without damage.
While the new clips assisted in the fixing of the roof panels, the first challenge was to get 29 metre long sheets to the site. This is where BlueScope Lysaght's new trailer came to the fore. The trailer's intelligent design allows it to extend from 14.8 metres to a huge 40 metres.
"The maneuverability of the trailer, with its rear steering ensured we could get the panels exactly where we needed them on site and with such long lengths, any assistance makes a huge difference. The expertise and experience of the driver was very impressive as well. He really made the whole delivery and unloading process easy for us," explained R Wishart Plumbing Service's owner, Mr Randall Wishart.
To steer the rear wheels, the trailer has a remote control which is just like a TV remote, with "right' and "left' buttons. The trailer's escort follows the trailer into the site, using the remote to steer the back wheels. With the rear steer, this 40 metre trailer is easier to operate than a 23 metre trailer without rear steering. It gives customers much more flexibility with regards to site access.
"It's critical for us to have suppliers who add value and are reliable, because on a project such as this one, we are responsible for all plumbing, drainage, gas supply, fire hydrant supply and all roofing and walling panels. Our continued success is based on outstanding project management and quality of the finished job. We can't be let down by suppliers," added Randall Wishart.
Wishart Plumbing has been providing plumbing, hydraulic and roofing installation services to civil projects in the New South Wales central west for more than 30 years. The majority of its work comes from facilities such as jails, hospitals, schools and shopping centres.
In addition to using 2,500 square metres of the LYSAGHT KLIP-LOK 700 HI-STRENGTH® on the Big W project, Wishart Plumbing also used LYSAGHT CUSTOM BLUE ORB® on the curved awnings, LYSAGHT CUSTOM ORB® on the eaves, and LYSAGHT® half round gutters.
