Situated on McCauley’s Beach, one hour south of Sydney, this stunning beach home has undergone a multimillion dollar transformation. A major feature of the home is the prominent twin pitched roof areas which also include multiple flat roof sections to add an interesting dimension to the massive roof area.
According to builder Brett Holmes, the existing LYSAGHT KLIP-LOK® roof was some 15 years old and was showing no signs of rusting at all, so there was a strong push from the architect, builder and owner to use the proven LYSAGHT® products again.
“The roofing material was discussed at great lengths with both the architect and the owner – my major issues and my team’s issues was the warranty and performance, that’s why we chose COLORBOND® ultra steel. Anytime the swell is up or the wind is blowing southerly or easterly, the house is covered in salt. In a project like this we always use the best materials possible not just because of the testing environment of the ocean, but also due to the multimillion dollar home needing to look great for years”, said Brett Holmes.
“What’s fairly unique is that the front roof sections are right in your face so we were under pressure to make sure the install looked great, particularly with a perfect colour match of the roof, screws and flashings”, continued Brett.
These roof profiles, gutter and numerous flashings have been supplied by BlueScope’s Lysaght business. All the LYSAGHT® products are finished in the colour Surfmist®, and because of the home’s close proximity to the ocean, COLORBOND® Ultra steel has been used as the material for the roofing profiles, gutters and flashings. The pitched roof sections are done in LYSAGHT CUSTOM ORB®, while the flat roof sections are LYSAGHT KLIP-LOK® profile.
“In addition to all the flashings on the roof and box gutter, all the verandah walls are capped in the flashings as they gave us a great look for the timber balustrading and provide the ultimate waterproofing,” said Brett.
“I can walk away knowing I’m not going to have warranty issues with this roof which makes me sleep easier at night”, finished Brett.
