Penrith Anglican College Performing Arts Centre by Terroir has taken out the Major Award in the Lysaght Inspirations Design Awards 2019, the program that celebrates outstanding Australian architectural work incorporating LYSAGHT® steel building products.
As part of the prize, two representatives from Terroir will be packing their bags for Amsterdam to attend the 2019 World Architecture Festival in December. In addition to the trip (and $5,000 spending money), the winning project is also set to feature on the cover of the next edition of Lysaght’s ‘Design Inspiration’ publication.
Terroir’s Performing Arts Centre entry constituted the first stage of a broader transformation of Penrith Anglican College. According to the judges, their winning design which includes LYSAGHT KLIP-LOK 700 HI-STRENGTH® roofing across an expansive roof, was an unqualified success.
Cleverly exploiting the product’s geometric possibilities, the roofing becomes a key design feature of a building that points to the creative endeavours that take place within, just as it asserts the school’s broader learning possibilities.
“The Penrith Anglican College Performing Arts Centre is an outstanding example of contemporary Australian design. It is a worthy winner of the Lysaght Inspirations Design Awards 2019,” said Blake Tasker, Lysaght Product & Brand Manager.
“Lysaght is delighted to be able to highlight work of this quality, and through this awards program, to encourage similar achievements into the future. We congratulate Terroir and look forward to seeing how they use LYSAGHT® products in upcoming projects.”
The Penrith Anglican College Performing Arts Centre project also took out the ‘Commercial and Industrial’ category. Following that first win, it went through to the final round of judging along with the other category winners, before being named Best of the Best.
In all, the 2019 Lysaght Inspirations Design Awards included five categories. The respective winners were:
- Commercial and Industrial – ‘Penrith Anglican College Performing Arts Centre’ by Terroir incorporating LYSAGHT KLIP-LOK 700 HI-STRENGTH® roofing
- Residential – ‘White Gum Rise’ by Honed Architecture and Design utilising LYSAGHT TRIMDEK® cladding and rainwater goods

- Heritage and Restoration – ‘Hut 37’ by Ajar Architects featuring LYSAGHT MINI ORB® and LYSAGHT CUSTOM ORB® cladding

The Student Category was new to this year’s program. Open to all architectural or design students currently enrolled at Australian universities as well as recent graduates, the winner was Jaden M from Deakin University, who receives a $5,000 cash prize.
The winners of all other categories receive $2,000 and their winning projects will feature in the next edition of Lysaght’s ‘Design Inspiration’ publication.
“Following the success of the inaugural Lysaght Inspirations Design Awards in 2018, we had high expectations for this year’s instalment. I am pleased to say that we weren’t disappointed. In the end, we were inundated with nominations of such quality that the judges’ task became a difficult one. My congratulations to all the winners, and indeed, to everybody who took part,” said Blake.
