As a sole trader, Windsor based builder Brad Paxton doesn't have a lot of time on his hands. So when it came time to renovate his own home, he turned to BlueScope Lysaght for fast, reliable and easy to install flooring.
As the Director of PNG Skylights and Roofing Pty Ltd, Brad specialises in complex skylight and roofing work for both residential and commercial projects. "I take enormous pride in what I do," says Brad. "I will always go the extra mile on any job that I do. 80 percent of my work is on recommendations from previous customers, so the end result has to speak for itself. As a sole trader, if you don't do high quality work, you don't last."
This dedication to quality is something that Brad expects of his suppliers as well. He says that the reliable delivery, service and product range offered BlueScope Lysaght are second to none.
"Delivery materials turn up when they are supposed to," he says. "In the building industry, time is money, there is nothing worse than having tradesmen on site and no material to work with.
"BlueScope Lysaght, and its distributors, like Number One Roofing in Narrabeen and Mitre 10 in Windsor, offer a good range of products and good service, which is why I use LYSAGHT® products exclusively for all my metal roofing projects."
In fact, Brad is so convinced of the quality and reliability of the LYSAGHT® range of metal building products, he's using them on his own house. Brad's renovation works include the addition of a new master bedroom, new bathroom, new laundry and a rumpus room.
As Brad is working on the house in his spare time, speed of installation is paramount. "Being a sole trader means that I don't have a lot of spare time," he explains. "Business is extremely busy at the moment, which is a good thing, but it doesn't leave me much time to work on other projects."
So when it came time to select a flooring system for the extension, Brad chose LYSAGHT QUIKA-FLOOR®, a fully engineered and certified steel sub flooring system developed by BlueScope Lysaght. He says that the time and money he saved by using LYSAGHT QUIKA-FLOOR® made it an exceptionally worthwhile decision.
"Using QUIKA-FLOOR® saved me between A$2,000 to A$3,500 in terms of cost. In terms of time, it would have saved me three to four days, which was really important to me, as I only had my weekends to work on the extension."
Economical, fast and easy to install, LYSAGHT QUIKA-FLOOR® is ideal for domestic applications. The pre-cut components save time and labour costs on site, and the strength of steel means that LYSAGHT QUIKA-FLOOR® bearers and joists have a large spanning capacity of up to 2.7 metres, and fewer footings are required.
The benefits of LYSAGHT QUIKA-FLOOR® are further enhanced when combined with BlueScope Lysaght's innovative steel piering system. LYSAGHT UNI-PIER® posts are an economical and effective replacement for brick piers, concrete or timber stumps, or painted steel posts. Pre-engineered load tables make council approvals easy, while the adjustable head (200mm adjustment) allows fast installation and levelling.
The ease with which LYSAGHT QUIKA-FLOOR® can be installed was a big benefit to Brad, particularly since he had never used it before. With this system, drilling and bolting are largely eliminated. Steel floor framing is a self drilling screw operation using a power drill with a hexagonal socket at minimum, or a clutched screwdriver for the professional.
"A key factor in my decision to use QUIKA-FLOOR® was the speed at which it can be erected. Compared to concrete or brick piers, it was just very easy and very fast. I found it very simple to work with, and it was the first time I had ever used the product!"
LYSAGHT UNI-PIER® posts also provide ample underfloor space. "Using the LYSAGHT UNI-PIER® posts created lots of storage space, and it also provides easier access for maintenance and servicing," says Brad.
All LYSAGHT QUIKA-FLOOR® components are galvanised, hot dip galvanised, or are made from durable ZINCALUME® steel, providing a floor that is termite, fire and corrosion resistant. Termite resistance was a definite advantage, says Brad. "There is a bit of a termite problem in the Windsor area," he says. "The fact that LYSAGHT QUIKA-FLOOR® is made of 100 percent galvanized steel was very reassuring. There's no way the termites can damage that!"
